1. Google to Pause Political Ads on All Platforms

Google will pause U.S. political ads on all of its platforms starting today. This follows last week’s violence at the U.S. Capitol, according to an email sent by the company to advertisers. As per Reuters, the email said that the action was taken “following the unprecedented events of the past week and ahead of the upcoming presidential inauguration.

2. Uday Shankar Joins James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems

Uday Shankar, former Star India chairman and president Walt Disney Asia Pacific, is forming a new venture with James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems. As per The Economic Times, the new venture will explore technology and media opportunities in emerging markets. Lupa Systems has so far invested in Vice Media, the Tribeca Film Festival and Art Basel globally. In India, the entity has invested in digital news platform Dailyhunt and online education start-up Harappa Education in India.


3. Essence Launches ‘Essence Media Health Check’

GroupM’s global data and measurement-driven media agency, Essence has launched ‘Essence Media Health Check’ service to help marketers achieve effective business outcomes from their digital media campaigns. It is a service product developed through Essence Global Ventures (EGV). According to The Economic Times, the product was incubated during the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic as a strategic aid for marketers to accelerate their digital transformation.


4. Dentsu to Merge iProspect & Vizeum

Dentsu will integrate iProspect and Vizeum to create a new, global media agency under the iProspect banner. By integrating these two agencies, dentsu brings Vizeum’s media strategy and planning, storytelling, and brand-building capabilities together with iProspect’s digital expertise, audience knowledge, and performance mindset. This will be led by Global President Amanda Morrissey, bringing together more than 8000 media and performance specialists across 93 key global markets.
