When Will India Create A John Lewis?

Anant Rangaswami, October 31, 2017

What will it take for an Indian brand, communicating to Indian audiences, to be written about months before the communication breaks?

Here’s a bit from an article I read today from Coventry Telegraph..

The John Lewis Christmas advert is expected to be released with days. The ad, which heralds the start of the festive season for many, is being tipped for release in early November. Here is what we know so far:
While the company is keeping tight-lipped about its scheduled release date, a look back at their Christmassy offerings of yore give us a reasonable timescale. The 2016 John Lewis ad was first teased on Twitter on Monday 7 November, with a ten-second clip showing a boxer dog watching a little girl bounce around her snowy garden on a red spacehopper. The full-length advert, titled Buster The Boxer, then aired on Sky on Thursday 10 November.

Just think about what’s happening here. Media is talking about an ad that WILL release. It’s now November 1, and the ad, they speculate, will release in ‘the next few days’.

The article speaks about LAST year’s ad and the release date as a prop to strengthen the likely release date.

I searched on Google for “John Lewis ad 2017” and this is what I got.
There are so many articles on the likely launch date. Some of the articles speculate on the storyline.

All this for an ad?

Yes, all for an ad. Because it’s not just another ad, it’s the JOHN LEWIS ad. John Lewis, the brand that has entertained UK viewers year after year with spectacular Christmas TVCs.

Take a look at last year’s ad, Buster the Boxer:
