1 Cannes Lions 2020 cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2020 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to The Drum. Originally it was pushed from June to October 26-30 amid the widening spread of COVID-19. But now the festival owner decided to skip it this year and return on June 21-25, 2021.

2. Google relaxes rules on coronavirus ads

Alphabet Inc’s Google is easing restrictions on ads related to coronavirus, as reported by 9to5google.com. Now it is starting to ‘phase in’ advertisers starting with government entities, hospitals, medical providers, and NGOs who can run ad campaigns related to coronavirus from this week. According to Google it applies to those who want to ‘get relevant information out to the public.’ Previously Google had shut down advertising related to pandemic amid its spread.

BBC Global News, CNN International and Euronews have united to donate free airtime worth $50million to public health bodies for the promotion of messages to combat the global coronavirus health crisis, as seen on Deadline.com. The inventory is available to major multilateral organisations and national health ministries who is looking to help protect citizens with the right information on the COVID-19. The World Health Organization is the first body to take up the offer.
