1. Edelman To Lay Off 390 Employees Worldwide

Edelman will be laying off 390 employees worldwide as the business begins to make a net loss due to the coronavirus pandemic. Edelman CEO, Richard Edelman, described it as the hardest decision he has had to make in 23 years leading the firm. According to PRWeek, Edelman had pledged not to make a single redundancy earlier in March. However, the consultancy is no longer able to sustain its business without “layoffs, furloughs, reduced work weeks and additional compensation reductions of mostly senior people scaled by salary level”. 

2. Hike Appoints Seema Chawla as VP and Head of Marketing

Hike has appointed Seema Chawla as vice president and head of marketing. The announcement was made as the company is getting ready to launch HikeLand, a virtual meet up place. She will be reporting to Kavin Bharti Mittal, founder and CEO, Hike. As per Campaign India, Chawla moves from Hotstar where she was VP – marketing.  

3. Saregama Partners With Facebook To License Its Music

Saregama has announced a global deal with Facebook to license its music for video and other social experiences across Facebook and Instagram. As per exchange4media, this collaboration will allow users to choose from a wide variety of music to add to their social experiences such as videos, stories via music stickers and other creative content. Users will also be able to add songs to their Facebook profile.

4. Apple Appoints Ipsita Dasgupta As India Country Manager

Apple has appointed Ipsita Dasgupta as India Country Manager for its streaming services, as noted by exchange4media. Prior to this she was president – strategy and new ventures at Hotstar. At Apple, she takes over from Khushboo Ponwar who last year moved on as Head of Business Development for Apple in India, Middle East, Turkey and Africa.

5. Google Suspends ‘Remove China Apps’

Google has removed the Indian app ‘Remove China Apps’ from its Play Store, as reported by Indian Express. The app, which let users detect and remove Chinese apps, was taken down after it was found to have violated some of Google’s policies. The app clocked more than five million downloads since it was introduced. Google has not confirmed if it will be available again.
