On behalf of the entire team here at Melt, we’d like to wish all our viewers a very merry Christmas. After a subdued 2020, this year saw a number of ads with light-hearted and cheerful messaging. What’s interesting to note is that the vast majority released their ads way earlier than they might have done in the past – with some campaigns beginning in October itself – eager to entice shoppers. However, the communications approach adopted by most brands this year felt safe and formulaic. Be it fantasy-filled scenarios, emotional soundtracks or families sitting together for a Christmas dinner, the campaigns seemed to have ticked all the usual attributes of a traditional Christmas ad.
