"The Indian media industry needs better talent."

In February 2021, former media baron and ex-chief executive of STAR India, Peter Mukerjea, published his memoir ‘Star Struck: Confessions of a TV executive’.

Considered one of the most successful media executives in India, Peter Mukerjea’s book is presented as a recollection of his experiences in the satellite television industry in India and the changes it has gone through over the years.

‘Star Struck’ recounts numerous stories, be it battling rival CEOs to winning over presidents, from making multimillion dollar deals in the back of a Mumbai taxi to hiring actor Amitabh Bachchan as a TV host, and then some. The book chronicles the story of how a crack team turned STAR India around to eventually become a catalyst in the growth of India’s TV industry.

To find out more about the book and his perception of the media industry today, Anant Rangaswami (Editor, MELT) is in conversation with the man himself.
